Have you ever wanted to put tother a GREAT cichlid tank? If so, then you have found the right hobby! You will need to make a decision on what kind of cichlid fish you want. (But that is a completely different article!!)
The first thing you will need to do is to put water in your tank!!
You will need to make sure to get sand for your tank. The best looking sand is the lightest you can get it. (White or light tan works the best!!)
After you put the sand in (and it settles), you will want to make rock creations. If you have just one species of cichlid in your tank, you can make caves for hiding and breeding. If you are having a tank with multiple species, you will need to just put a few rocks here and these with no caves, so that there will be no territory to claim.
Usually, live plants do not fare well with cichlids as they will eat them. The best way to get the best looking plants is to use fake plastic plants. You will want to arange the plants in areas that lack rock formations.
One of the most important steps to creating a gorgeous tank is to have a great florescent light!! The brighter the tank, the better!!
You will want to make the tank look great! It is up to you how you do it, but you want to be able to make it pleasing to you! You are the one that is going to look at it all the time! You will also want the fish to be happy. If there is a lot of fighting going on, then you might want to make a change so that doesn't happen.
Whatever you do, have fun doing it!
