Where are fish hatched?

Fish are hatched in a variety of places, depending on the species. Here are some common examples:

In the water:

* Eggs laid on the bottom: Many fish species lay their eggs on the bottom of lakes, rivers, or oceans. The eggs might be attached to rocks, plants, or even buried in the sand.

* Eggs floating in the water: Some fish, like salmon, lay their eggs in nests in gravel beds. The eggs are fertilized and hatch in the water.

* Live birth: Some fish, like guppies and mollies, give birth to live young.

Outside the water:

* In nests: Some fish, like sticklebacks, build nests out of plants or other materials. The male fish will guard the eggs until they hatch.

* In burrows: Some fish, like eels, lay their eggs in burrows in the sand or mud.

The specific location where fish hatch depends on a variety of factors, including the species, the water temperature, and the availability of food and shelter.
