Things You'll Need
- 10 1/2-inch vase
- Betta fish
- 2 bags of gemstones
- 2 1/3 gallons of bottled water
- Fresh water plant
- Scissors
- Planting tray
- Straw
Instructions
Use a 10 1/2-inch vase to begin setting up your Betta fish aquarium. Wash the inside of the vase using water to free the vase from any harmful deposits.
Use a freshwater plant such as a Dieffenbachia, Philodendron or Spathaphylium plant that are roughly 6 inches in length. Wash the roots of the plant to clean any dirt or soil from the plant.
Cut a quarter-sized hole in a plastic planting tray using scissors to allow the plant to hover freely at the top of the vase. This will prevent the roots from touching the bottom of the vase to allow space to grow. Insert the roots of the plant through the hole in the planting tray. Set the tray and plant aside.
Insert 1 1/2 bags of gemstones into the bottom of the vase. Fill the vase using purified bottled water with roughly 2 1/3 gallons of water.
Insert the Betta fish into the water-filled vase. Place the planting tray holding the plant on the top of the vase. The planting tray will prevent the plant from falling into the water completely.
Insert a straw through the hole of the planting tray between the roots so that half the straw is submersed in the water. The other half should be above water to provide an oxygen source. Through the straw, the Betta fish will be provided with a constant flow of oxygen.
Pour the other half of a bag of gemstones onto the planting tray.
