Does the Magnum 350 Serve As a Biological Filter?

Maintaining an aquarium full of healthy fish requires a wide variety of accessories. Filtration of the water is extremely important, but not all filters function in the same way.
  1. Function

    • A Magnum 350 filter is a canister filter meant for use in both saltwater and freshwater aquariums. This filter cleans the tank habitat mechanically by removing floating scraps, and chemically by keeping carbon levels stable.

    Considerations

    • A biological filter uses sympathetic bacteria to convert water pollutants, such as ammonia, to harmless chemicals, such as nitrates. The Magnum 350 does not have the ability to house these bacteria, so another filter must be installed along with the Magnum 350 for proper filtration.

    Attached Biological Filter

    • The Magnum 350 does allow a biological filter to be directly attached. The outlet of the filter can employ a biological filter so that the water flow is filtered mechanically, chemically and biologically at the same time.
