Silk Plants for Fish Tanks

Silk plants are a realistic alternative to real plants for aquariums. They are pretty and easy to clean and maintain. Fish love silk plants as many are very similar in texture and appearance to the real thing. Plus, aquarium owners do not have to worry about taking care of live plants in addition to taking care of their fish. Most places that sell aquariums, including local pet stores, have silk plants available to consumers.
  1. Colorful Plants

    • Silk plants help fish tank owners replicate what a fish would see in their natural habitat and provide a bit of color to the floral life of an aquarium. These plants include the Japanese maple vine, pink liana vine, blue clover ivy, cryptocryne, new red robin, dictyota rossa and bicolor nesaes. Some of these plants are designed to be used only in saltwater aquariums or only in freshwater aquariums. Plant colors may be chosen to replicate the natural environment of a fish, to compliment the color of the room a fish tank is in or to create a theme that is consistent with all the decorations chosen for a tank.

    Green Plants

    • Green plants compliment any fish tank while recreating the natural environment of many fish. This is especially true of freshwater fish as the colors of the sea are generally much more vibrant than the colors of rivers, streams, ponds and lakes. Calyculus mesicana, sargassum platycarpum, acetabularia calyculus, dictyota verde, curly crispis and the green tiger lotus are among the many green silk plants available for fish tank owners to purchase.

    Exotic Silk Plants

    • Finding exotic silk plants can be difficult. Pet stores and aquariums can help find quality replicas for a tank if they do not keep them in stock. South American rifts, nymphoides, hygrophila red silk, red hemi and green parrot are among the more popular exotic plants used to decorate aquariums.

    Grasslike Plants

    • Many different plants that look like grass are a part of the aquatic environment. Hair grass, brown balansae, apongeton crispis and bichetti pongol look like grass. They are tall plants that will reach toward the top of aquariums and give movement to the space. Fish will enjoy swimming through and hiding in these plants. They provide a place to play, rest and disappear from being viewed, and they offer fish a reprieve as they replicate the natural environment and let the fish rest and not worry about being visible to predators.
