How to Trim Water Wisteria From the Top

Trimming water wisteria regularly is important because the plant grows rapidly and will expand across the tank in an unsightly fashion if left alone. The rate of growth for water wisteria depends on your specific aquarium's amount of light, carbon dioxide levels, and amounts of nitrate and phosphate in the tank. Propagate your water wisteria across the aquarium by frequently trimming and replanting the tops of the plants, which will regrow on their own.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your aquarium, lower your hand into the water and grip one of the water wisteria by its stem.

    • 2

Pull the water wisteria plant up by its stem until it's completely free from the substrate.

    • 3

Take scissors or pruning shears and cut the water wisteria near the top portion of the plant.

    • 4

Replant the top portion of the water wisteria in the aquarium's substrate. The top section will expand and regrow roots if it came from a strong stem. Discard the bottom section of the water wisteria or replant it behind the newly planted top portion to hide the bare stems.

Trim the water wisteria weekly to control its growth and create a bushy appearance.
