Growing Moss on the Floor in a Fish Tank

Aquatic moss is a relatively hardy and easy to grow aquarium plant. It requires little extra care and grows under most aquarium conditions. If you̵7;re tired of using standard stones at the bottom of your tank, create a wall of moss there instead. Moss planted in a sheet of wire will eventually grow out of the mesh and become a lush, green covering for the floor of your aquarium.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two pieces of mesh to the size of the bottom of your aquarium. Use your wire cutters to cut a small square hole in the center of the two sheets. This will be used to stick a suction cup through to secure your mesh wall to the bottom of the tank.

    • 2

Spread a generous amount of aquatic moss sprouts on top of the first sheet of mesh, and then place the second sheet on top -- sandwiching the moss in the center.

    • 3

Use twist ties to attach the two sheets of mesh together, and insert a suction cup into the hole you cut in Step 1.

    • 4

Place the sheet down to the bottom of your fish tank, with the suction cup facing downward. Press the suction cup against the bottom of the tank, to secure the mesh. When the moss sprouts, it will grow up through the mesh and create a blanket of moss on the aquarium floor.
