How to Make Homemade Aquarium Plants

Decorating a fish tank is important for two reasons. First, it is important for fish to have a habitat with places to hide and second, the decor in a tank can help to make it aesthetically pleasing. Aquarium plants and decorations can be expensive, but you can eliminate part of that cost by making your own aquarium plants at home very easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a template by drawing an outline on a piece of cardboard. Research other aquarium plants to get an idea of what you want your plants to look like.

    • 2

Wipe down both sides of a green plastic bag with warm water to remove any industrial chemicals, dirt or dust that may exist. Spread out the bag on a flat surface and cut it along the seams. Fold the bag open.

    • 3

Place the template on the plastic and cut around it.

    • 4

Place a rock of the appropriate size in the center of the cut-out and glue it down with a bead of silicone.

    • 5

Wrap your plant up and around the rock and secure it with a rubber band. Allow the plant to sit out overnight to dry the silicone completely before placing it in the aquarium.
