What percent of marine life is endangered?
Approximately 27% of all marine species assessed are currently threatened with extinction, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. There are an estimated 227,000 marine species, of which more than 61,000 have been evaluated by the IUCN. Out of these, 16,514 are threatened with extinction, making marine species one of the most highly threatened groups of organisms.
