How many seal species are endangered?

There are currently 13 seal species that are considered to be endangered or critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). These include:

- Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus)

- Hawaiian monk seal (Neomonachus schauinslandi)

- Caribbean monk seal (Neomonachus tropicalis) - Extinct

- Saimaa ringed seal (Pusa hispida saimensis)

- Caspian seal (Pusa caspica)

- Baikal seal (Pusa sibirica)

- Ribbon seal (Histriophoca fasciata)

- Spotted seal (Phoca largha)

- Guadalupe fur seal (Arctocephalus townsendi)

- Juan Fernández fur seal (Arctocephalus philippii)

- New Zealand fur seal (Arctocephalus forsteri)

- Subantarctic fur seal (Arctocephalus tropicalis)

- Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea)
