Saltwater Mouth Fungus Treatment

Saltwater mouth fungus affects marine fish and causes them to lose their appetite or motivation to move. The fish might be reacting to the saltwater or the tank might not be cleaned out properly.
  1. Symptoms

    • Symptoms of saltwater mouth fungus include white spots along the mouth, a cottony growth that is eating away at the fish's mouth and rotting fins.

    Prevention/Solution

    • One treatment for fish that have saltwater mouth fungus is to remove the carbon during treatment of the water with a carbon filter.

    Treatment

    • After fungus appears on the fish, immediately change the water to remove any excess fungus and vacuum the gravel.

    Add Aquarium Salt

    • Adding aquarium salt to the tank might help to kill the bacteria causing the fungus to grow.

    Treat with Antibiotic

    • If algae is clearly visible in the fish tank, treat the water with copper sulfate or an antibiotic.
