Does the shark harm cleaner fish?
Sharks typically do not harm cleaner fish such as the wrasse or goby. Instead, they rely on these fish for important cleaning and parasite-removal services. Cleaner fish feed on dead skin, parasites, and other organic material that accumulates on the shark's body, helping the shark to stay healthy. In return for these services, the cleaner fish receive food and protection from the shark. This mutualistic relationship allows both the shark and cleaner fish to benefit from each other's presence.
