How to Keep Ibis Out of Fish Ponds

Ibis are beautiful birds but can be a nuisance to a fish pond. Fish ponds are a perfect dining spot for ibis to have an easy meal of koi or goldfish. This can be frustrating for pond owners when they realize their favorite koi is missing from the pond.

Instructions

    • 1

String fishing line across the top of the fish pond. Ibis will be caught in the line by their feet or beaks without being hurt. Fishing line is virtually invisible and will not distract from the beauty of the pond.

    • 2

Put black netting purchased from a local pond store over the pond. The netting will prevent ibis from removing and eating the fish.

    • 3

Place a fake owl, egret or heron by the pond. Ibis will not come to the pond if another bird is feeding from the pond.

    • 4

Utilize a motion-activated sprinkler that releases a short but startling burst of water. It must be attached to a garden hose. The sprinkler can be purchased from a pond store or bought online from a pond-supply website.

A dog is a great deterrent for ibis. The presence of a dog signals to birds to keep away.
