Are plastic herons any good as a deterrent around fish pond?

While they could offer a measure of initial success, plastic heron decoys can become ineffective when the real herons realize they are not realistic. As a result, many herons will learn that plastic decoys do not pose a threat, as they discover they can safely fly around them. They may soon start to ignore them completely, and your pond will become vulnerable again. However, using various forms of deterrents in conjunction with a plastic heron can have a positive effect. For example, combining a plastic heron with other deterrents such as scare spinners, reflective tape, or even an occasional change in the decoy itself may help to provide increased protection for a short period of time.
