How do I Clean Aquaclear Biomax for Saltwater?

A healthy filter means a healthy aquarium. After a period of use, the filter becomes clogged with mulm and debris from the aquarium. Cleaning the filter and the filter inserts is an important aspect of aquarium maintenance and should occur every month or so. Without a working filter, the aquarium water becomes toxic to the fish, as the beneficial filter bacteria can no longer process and neutralize the fish waste. Cleaning the filter is a quick, simple process that gives you peace of mind and happy fish.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn the AquaClear filter off.

    • 2

Remove the lid from the AquaClear filter.

    • 3

Remove the filter basket and place it in the bucket. Some water may be removed from the filter if this makes it easier to remove the basket without splashing water out of the filter.

    • 4

Use the cup to scoop some water from the aquarium into the bucket.

    • 5

Remove the BioMax bag from the filter basket.

    • 6

Swirl the BioMax bag in the water, using your hands to massage the bag. This will release any mulm that is stuck to the BioMax.

    • 7

Place the BioMax bag back into the filter basket.

    • 8

Place the filter basket back into the AquaClear filter.

    • 9

Top the filter back up with aquarium water and replace the lid. If necessary, mix some fresh saltwater as you normally would for water changes and top the aquarium up.

    • 10

Turn filter on. Allow 30 to 45 seconds for the air to be expelled from the filter plumbing.
