Things You'll Need
- Extra aquarium (to hold fish)
- Modeling clay
- Electric drill
- Water
- Drill bit
- Protective eye gear
Instructions
Remove all fish, water, decorations and gravel from the aquarium so that it's completely empty.
Decide where you want to drill a hole in the ADA tank. The hole must be at least 1 inch from the sides of the glass. Do not drill into the bottom of the aquarium.
Rotate the tank so that the side you'll be drilling is laying horizontally as a flat surface.
Build a dam in modeling clay around where the hole will be made. Place the putty in a circle around the area, with enough room for the drill to easily fit through. Be sure to build the sides high enough to hold a small puddle of water to cover the area while drilling. This will keep the materials and drill bit cool as you work. Fill the dam with water.
Drill a hole in the desired location of the aquarium. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the drill as you're making the hole. The drill bit should slowly grind away the tank's glass instead of bursting through. As you drill, take breaks to raise up the drill and allow water to move into the hole and cool the materials.
Wash out any glass fragments from the aquarium with water before placing the fish, aquarium water and decorations back inside.
