Instructions for the AquaClear Filter

The AquaClear is a line of hang-on-the-back aquarium filters for freshwater aquariums. It uses a foam block and activated carbon to clean the water. Dirty tank water is drawn up through the intake tube, and forced up through the foam to remove large particles. Then it flows through a bag filled with activated carbon, and on some models another layer of medium before flowing back out into the tank through a spillway. Everything you need to assemble the filter is included in the box.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse the foam insert under running water and place it in the bottom of the plastic filter basket. There shouldn't be any gaps between the foam block and the sides of the filter basket.

    • 2

Rinse the bag of activated carbon included with the filter under running water. When the water runs clear, flatten out the bag and place it on top of the sponge.

    • 3

Place the filter basket with the foam and carbon inserts into the AquaClear filter unit. You may need to press down gently to get it to slide in all the way. Replace the carbon every month, and the foam block every two months.

    • 4

Insert the U shaped intake tube into the AquaClear filter case. The tube should click into place over the filter pump. Insert the extension tube into the other end of the U shaped tube. You may need to use more than one extension tube, depending on the depth of the tank.

    • 5

Insert the leveling device in the socket on the bottom of the filter case. Place the AquaClear filter on the back of the aquarium, and twist the leveling device until the filter sits level.

    • 6

Fill the filter case with water, and place the filter cover on top. Plug in the filter pump. Leave a drip loop in the cord, so that water running down the cord won't get into the outlet.

    • 7

Clean the filter pump every three months by emptying the filter and twisting the pump counterclockwise. Pull out the pump impeller and rinse it under running water. You can use a cotton swab to remove stubborn deposits. Wet down the rubber O-ring on the pump before you screw it back in.
