What do flashlight fish eat?
Flashlight fish, also known as hatchetfish or sternoptychidae, are mesopelagic fish found in tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. Their primary diet consists of small planktonic organisms, including copepods, ostracods, and other crustaceans. They also feed on small fish larvae and other zooplankton. Flashlight fish typically use their bioluminescent organs, located underneath their eyes, to lure and attract their prey. They usually inhabit depths ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 feet, but can occasionally come closer to the surface during their feeding periods.
