* Sound transmission through water: Sound travels differently through water than through air. The frequencies that goldfish are sensitive to are lower than those we can hear, and these frequencies don't travel well through the tank's glass or plastic.
* Limited hearing range: Goldfish have a limited hearing range compared to humans. They are primarily sensitive to vibrations in the water.
* Tank insulation: The tank itself acts as a barrier, further reducing the transmission of sounds from outside.
However, there are some exceptions:
* Loud, low-frequency vibrations: Very loud sounds, especially low-frequency vibrations like those from heavy machinery or loud music, might be able to cause the tank to vibrate, which could potentially be perceived by the goldfish.
* Direct contact: If something is touching or hitting the tank directly, goldfish might be able to feel the vibrations through the glass.
In general, though, goldfish don't hear sounds from outside their tank like humans do. They are more likely to be sensitive to vibrations in the water.
