How to Sterilize an Old Aquarium Filter

New aquarium equipment can be costly so finding free or cheap used equipment is a great option if you are owning fish for the first time. However, older aquarium equipment needs to be cleaned before it can be used and sterilizing an old aquarium filter is one of the most important steps in the process. Not only does sterilizing an old filter help ensure it will perform well mechanically, it gives you a clean environment to begin building new bacteria cultures that will help stabilize your new aquarium.
