How to Clean Filthy Plastic Plants for Fish

Owning and maintaining a fish tank can be a rewarding and relaxing hobby. Having plastic plants in your aquarium makes your fish tank look more natural. It also allows the fish to live in a more natural habitat. But like anything else in your tank, the plastic plants will accumulate algae, grime and dirt. Cleaning them is a simple process that only takes a few minutes.

      Remove the plastic plants that need to be cleaned from the fish tank. You can use your hands or a fish net, whichever you prefer. Place the plastic plants into your kitchen sink until your ready for them to be cleaned.

      Run the plastic plants under warm tap water. Turn the water on all the way so that the pressure from the water loosens some of the dirt and grime form the plastic plants.

      Remove the larger pieces of algae using your hands. Throw the algae in the trash so it does not clog the pipes.

      Scrub hard-to-reach places using a new toothbrush. Clean around the edges of the plastic plants as well as any remaining pieces of stuck on algae.

      Shake off any excess water on the plastic plants and lay them out on clean paper towels to dry. when the plastic plants are completely dried off you can place them back into your tank.
