The Mardel CopperSafe Instructions

Mardel CopperSafe is a treatment you add to aquarium water to treat ick, flukes, anchor worms and protozoan diseases in freshwater aquarium fish. You shouldn't use the treatment on healthy fish. Isolate the sick fish from the main aquarium and treat it separately.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the sick fish from the current tank and set up a hospital or isolation tank. This will isolate the fish so it can receive treatment without contaminating the other fish. If the carbon filter in the hospital tank is over five days old, it can remain in the tank. If it is newer than that, remove it. A new filter can remove Mardel CopperSafe from the water.

    • 2

Determine how many gallons of water the aquarium holds. If you are unsure use this equation: aquarium length in inches multiplied by width multiplied by height. Divide the answer by 231. Round the number to the nearest whole number.

    • 3

Pour 1 tsp. of Mardel CopperSafe into the aquarium for every 4 gallons of water that the aquarium holds. Begin running the filtration system so the treatment circulates through the tank.

Add a dose of CopperSafe to the tank every month or when you clean and refill the tank . When cleaning or refilling the tank, adjust the amount of treatment added based on the amount of water refilled. For example, if you removed and replaced 4 gallons of water from a 20-gallon tank, only add 1 tsp. instead of the usual dose of 5 tsps.
