How to Build a 46-Inch Bow Fish Tank Stand

Although some fish like koi are typically kept in an outdoor pond, all tropical fresh water and marine fish are housed indoors in an aquarium. Aquariums normally stand in a living room, and as such, should look attractive and complement the existing furniture if possible. Bow shaped aquariums are popular in the hobby, because of their aesthetic appearance. Bow shaped aquariums look their best, when displayed on a bow shaped stand, which the hobbyist can build themselves.

Instructions

    • 1

Place one of the 1-inch thick plywood (46-inch-by-15.6-inch) bow-shaped boards on the floor.

    • 2

Spread a thin layer of carpenter's glue onto one end of one of the four 2-by-2-by-26-inch long wooden beams and place it vertically on the right hand rear corner of the 1-inch plywood base plate. Hold the beam in position for a few minutes.

    • 3

Spread a thin layer of carpenter's glue onto one end of the second of the four 2-by-2-by-26-inch long wooden beams and place it vertically on the left hand rear corner of the 1-inch plywood base plate. Hold the beam in position for a few minutes.

    • 4

Spread a thin layer of carpenter's glue onto one end of the third of the four 2-by-2-by-26-inch long wooden beams and place it vertically on the right hand front curve of the 1-inch plywood base plate, as close as possible to a corner, should that have existed. Hold the beam in position for a few minutes.

    • 5

Spread a thin layer of carpenter's glue onto one end of the last 2-by-2-by-26-inch long wooden beams and place it vertically on the left hand front curve of the 1-inch plywood base plate, as close as possible to a corner, should that have existed. Hold the beam in position for a few minutes.

    • 6

Leave the structure for four hours while the glue cures. Turn the structure upside down, so that it is resting on the four legs.

    • 7

Screw the base plate to each of the four legs that have already been glued in place.

    • 8

Lay the base flat on the floor once again. Place the second 1-inch thick plywood, 46-inch-by-15.6-inch, shape onto the four legs. Align this top piece up with the base plate, by having the back right and left hand corners flush with the rear legs.

    • 9

Screw the top piece onto each leg.

    • 10

      Stain the stand if desired.
