How to Attach Aquarium Backgrounds

Aquariums enhance the appearance of any room, whether it is a small goldfish tank, medium sized tropical aquarium or a large salt-water environment. You can attach backgrounds to the aquarium for many reasons. A background will make the tank appear bigger and create an underwater illusion. Plus it will hide all of the tubes, wiring and other unsightly items typically found behind an aquarium.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Razor blade (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Clean and dry the surface of the aquarium. Check the background to make sure it is clean also.

    • 2

Push the top edge of the background under the trim on the aquarium. Placing the background under the trim will keep water from getting between the aquarium and the background.

    • 3

Align the top of the background evenly. Lay the rest of the background against the tank to make sure it fits properly.

    • 4

Trim the background using a razor blade or scissors. Put water resistant tape all along the top trim to hold the background in place.

    • 5

Add additional tape along the entire length of the three remaining sides of the aquarium background. This will seal the sides and bottom and prevent water and dirt from getting in.
