1
Measure the side of your fish tank. Look for backgrounds that are the closest in size to your tank wall.
-
2
Determine the location of your fish tank before choosing a background. Take into consideration the colors in the room or the immediate surroundings of the fish tank and choose a background to match the décor.
-
3
Decide on a theme for your fish tank. Pirate themes, mermaids, salt water or fresh water tanks should have backgrounds to reflect their character.
-
4
Look at the different kinds of backgrounds available at your local pet supply store.
-
5
Check both sides of the backgrounds you are interested in. Most are two sided and allow you to flip them over for a periodic change in the look of your tank.
-
6
Choose a background that is slightly longer than the walls of your tank. This will allow you to continue the background a couple of inches over the corners for a three dimensional appearance.
-
7
Visit online fish retailers for a wide selection of fish tank backgrounds. Just be sure to do your measuring before making any purchases.
