How to Make an Airtube for a Fish Tank

Making an airtube properly for a fish tank can make the difference between dead fish floating at the top of the aquarium and living fish. By installing an airtube and air pump, fish get the necessary oxygen to live a healthy life. Airtubes can be made using a rubber tube and a safety pin. Both are available at any hardware store. Connect the airtube to existing items in your fish tank to provide steady air flow.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the air pump above water level on a solid surface. Wrap the air pump with a sponge to reduce vibration noise.

    • 2

Connect one end of the rubber tube to the output of the air pump. The rubber tube serves as the airtube.

    • 3

Puncture small holes throughout the rubber tube using a safety pin. The holes should not be visible.

    • 4

Connect the opposite end of the rubber tube to the input of an air stone. The input is located in the bottom of the air stone. The air stone releases additional air into the tank.

    • 5

Plug the air pump into an electrical outlet. The air goes through the air pump, disperses through the holes in the airtube, and exits from the air stone.
