How to Raise Cold Water Fish

Cold water fish live in waters below 20 C, or 68 F. These types of fish are more common to keep in an aquarium because you don't have to heat the water. Keeping fish can be tricky if you aren't familiar with what you are doing. Monitoring water levels and keeping the miniecosystem stable are vital if you want to keep your fish alive and watch them grow.

Instructions

Add a fish per week into the tank. A fish tank is an environment which can easily be disturbed by sudden changes. Similarly, complete any tank modifications or decorations slowly. Add items one at a time, over a series of days to keep the pH and nitrogen levels stable.

Feed your fish sparingly. Overfeeding fish may cause kidney problems and may make them grow exceptionally large. If in doubt, feed your fish less rather than more, as fish will eat all that is given to them. If your tank is becoming dirty, it is most likely due to overfeeding.

Remove dead fish immediately. With your first tank, it is common for fish to die regularly, due to old age, or while you learn to keep track of the different levels. Run a water quality test when a fish dies and respond accordingly. Remove them to prevent the other fish from eating them. Wait a week to introduce a new fish.
