How to Know If Dalmatian Fish Are Pregnant

The Dalmatian molly has a marbled black-and-white body and is also known as a marbled molly or marbled sailfin molly. The molly is a freshwater fish that grows to 4 3/4 inches in length. The Dalmatian molly is a live bearer and needs a tank of at least 25 gallons if it is breeding. The female gives birth every 60 to 70 days to approximately 10 to 60 young that are a half inch long. There are a few signs you can look for to determine if your Dalmatian molly is pregnant.

Instructions

    • 1

Look near the anal vent of your fish. If there is a dark spot, it is pregnant; this spot is known as the gravid spot.

    • 2

Assess the belly area. If it is rounder than usual and appears distended, the fish is probably carrying young.

    • 3

Look at the back end and the belly of your fish. If they are squarish, it is pregnant and close to giving birth.
