How to Raise Angelfish

Raising Angelfish fry can be challenging. Angelfish fry begin swimming after about a week and are ready to begin feeding. Your survival numbers of fry may be lower as time passes. As the Angelfish mature and look more like their parents, however, their survival rate becomes more stable and less special care is needed. .

Instructions

    • 1

Feed newly hatched angelfish, once they start to swim, live baby brine shrimp two to three times a day. Baby brine shrimp is available at most pet stores.

    • 2

Switch the fry over to adult brine shrimp or frozen or flake beef heart food when they are about 3 weeks old. Feed once or twice a day; three times a day is no longer necessary at this age.

    • 3

Remove dead fry out of the tank daily to prevent water contamination.

    • 4

Provide adequate space for the angelfish fry. Once an angelfish is nickel-sized, one gallon of water per fish is necessary. There must be adequate swimming space; if there is not, move some of the fry to another tank to prevent overcrowding.

    • 5

Keep water temperatures at approximately 83 to 87 F. Make 50 percent water changes daily by removing half of the water and replacing it.

    • 6

Test the water pH to maintain a balance of between 4.7 and 8.7. Use a pH testing strip or a master water testing kit, both of which are sold under various brand names. These include tests for water factors such as pH, ammonia, nitrate and other important variables.
