What do beluga sturgeons eat?

Beluga sturgeons are bottom-feeding omnivores; however, unlike other sturgeon species that are considered opportunistic filter feeders and scavengers, the Caspian beluga and some other Acipenseriformes are piscivorous (piscivore - an animal specializing in hunting and eating fish). Small sturgeons feed on tiny worms while adults prefer shrimp, mollusks, crustaceans, other types of small fish, fish roe, and insect larvae depending on the season of the year, water depths, food availability, etc. Their large, downward-turned, crescent-shaped mouth helps sturgeon catch and suck a vast variety of bottom prey.
