How far can sharks swim?
The maximum distance traveled by any tagged shark was just over 19,250 miles (30,980 km) over a period of 20 years by a female great white shark named Nicole, who was tagged in the North Pacific Ocean in 1995 and caught off the Pacific Coast of Baja California in 2015. In 2009, the great white shark Anne was recaptured off the Pacific coast of California after swimming 14,000 miles (23,000 km) from Western Australia to California, where she was originally tagged in 2004. Blue sharks have been known to swim 2,000 nautical miles (3,700 km) within four months. Salmon sharks can swim up to 1,150 nautical miles (2,130 km) within a year.
