How long can a lungfish live out of water?
A lungfish can live out of water for several days, up to a few months in some cases. Lungfish have a special organ called a lung that allows them to breathe air. They also have a strong mucus coating that helps to protect them from drying out. When a lungfish is out of water, it will bury itself in mud or sand and enter a state of estivation. During estivation, the lungfish's metabolism slows down and it can survive for long periods of time without food or water.
