What Is a Coral Cod?

Coral cod are any of a number of species of cod which live within the coral reefs. Several other species of fish with the name "coral cod" are not part of the Epinephelinae subfamily. For example, the green coralgrouper (Cephalopholis miniata) is another anthiine serranid (the anthias and sea basses). However, they are sometimes called "coral trout". Coral cods can change colour to match their environment.
