When did star fish first appear on earth?

The earliest known fossils of starfish-like creatures (known as asteroids) date back to the Ordovician Period, which spanned from about 485 to 443 million years ago.

However, it's important to note that these early fossils aren't quite the same as the starfish we see today. They were more primitive and had a simpler body structure.

The starfish as we know them with their five-armed structure likely evolved later, in the Silurian Period (about 443 to 419 million years ago).
