How to Spot Infertile Eggs & Fertile Eggs From Goldfish Eggs

There are two key aspects that will encourage your goldfish to breed. Gradually increasing the temperature over a few months from 50 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit will entice them. You will also need to create a place for them to spawn. Combining these two components will create an environment prime for breeding. During breeding, the goldfish will act crazy, chasing one another around. Do not be concerned, but after this behavior, keep your eyes out for eggs.

Instructions

Get a soft, cold water plant for the female to spawn under. This should be under a foot in depth. Good plant choices include java moss and hornwort.

    • 2

Look for tiny, clean eggs. They will be circular in shape and will stick to anything and everything in the tank.

    • 3

After a day, look for a tiny black dot inside the egg. If a black dot appears, the egg is fertile. If there is no black dot, the egg is infertile.

The adult fish will start eating their infertile and fertile eggs immediately. If you want to keep the eggs and see them hatch, remove them from the adult tank as soon as possible. Keep them in a tank with low aeration. The eggs will hatch in four to seven days.
