How to Make Fantail Goldfish Mate

Fantail goldfish are distinguished by their tails. They can have bulging eyes, upwards eyes or normal eyes. The fantail is the split between the tail on the fish. These fish can grow to six inches long and prefer to live in cold water with plants. The key to having the plants in the tank is to place them on the ends of the tank and allow the middle to remain open.

Instructions

Select a male and female goldfish. The female will be larger and rounder than the male. Place them in a separate tank that is well planted on both ends with plants along the bottom of the aquarium.

Allow them a week to adjust to the new tank and lower the water temperature to 60 to 62 degrees. Goldfish prefer cool water. Allow the water to stay at this temperature for a month. Feed them brine shrimp daily to supplement their normal diet. This will make the female more apt to spawn.

Raise the temperature of the tank after a month. Do this slowly, to around 70 degrees. The heater can be adjusted a few degrees every couple of days to induce spawning. This will simulate the change of season and spark the female to go into spawning mode.
