Things You'll Need
- Large tank with filter
- Gravel and decoration
- Fish food
Instructions
Have a large tank with a good filtration system to keep your fish in, as these have a large enough air surface and built in filter to keep the water continuously moving. Find these at your local pet store or on line (see resources).
Put the right things in the tank. Gravel is important as fish are very messy animals so line the bottom of the tank with small rounded stones without sharp edges. Putting a few choice items for decoration in the tank not only makes it more attractive but they are a great place for fish to hide.
Feed your goldfish food that is specially designed for their needs. Experts disagree whether flake food, pellet food or fresh produce is best for goldfish but if you buy any of these from your local pet store, they should be fine, as long as they are made specifically for goldfish. Feed your fish no more than once a day.
Change the water on a regular basis. If possible, try to change at least some of the water everyday to give your goldfish a regular influx of clean fresh water.
Keep the light on for at least 8 hours a day. Many tanks come with a built in light and you can install a timer to ensure your fish get the required light. Having a well-lit tank is important for the goldfish's well being and lets you see them better.
