Things You'll Need
- Goldfish
- Tank
- Fish food
- Filter
Instructions
Choose an aquarium large enough to accommodate the number of goldfish you will purchase. Ensure that the tank has a gravel floor, a cover and fluorescent lighting.
Keep water at a neutral pH level. Goldfish do best in waters with neutral pH levels (7.2 to 7.6) and tap water usually falls at that level. Check the water regularly to ensure it is staying at a neutral level. Allow tap water to sit for a day to get rid of chlorine before adding it to your fish tank, if necessary.
Choose a filter. Opt for a piggyback filter for a smaller tank or a canister filter for larger tanks with multiple goldfish. Replace filters on a regular basis.
Siphon waste out of the gravel about every two weeks to pick up excess feces.
Decorate the tank with rocks and plants behind which goldfish can hide. Remove plants that start to look wilted as rotting plants can release toxins into the water. Add an airstone to increase the oxygen flow.
Feed your fish the proper diet. Goldfish eat several small meals a day. Feed your goldfish prepackaged goldfish food and do not overfeed them.
