2. Operculum: covers the gills.
3. Branchiostegal rays: membrane bones supporting the operculum.
4. Pectoral fin: paired, located just behind the operculum.
5. Pelvic fin: paired, located on the belly, just behind the head.
6. Dorsal fin: single median fin on the back.
7. Anal fin: single median fin on the belly, behind the anus.
8. Caudal fin: median fin at the tail end of the body.
9. Lateral line: a series of scales with openings to the outside that runs along the sides of the body, from head to tail.
10. Scales: thin, overlapping plates of skin that cover the body.
