How does a goldfish grow as size of foot when in seawater and still the same bowl?

A goldfish cannot grow to the size of a foot in either freshwater or seawater, regardless of the size of the bowl. The maximum size a goldfish can reach is about 12 inches, and this is only for certain varieties of goldfish kept in optimal conditions.
