How to Assemble an Indoor Koi Fish Farm

Koi fish can add an exotic touch to your home; however, an indoor koi fish farm can be difficult to assemble and maintain. Koi fish require specific conditions to live in and need to frequent attention. Because Koi fish are finicky, indoor fish farms are, at times, the only means possible for the fish to survive in certain parts of the world.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate an area in your home with a lot of light because koi fish get their bright color from sunlight. If you do not have an area in your home that is bright enough, you can purchase halide lights. The location should also be near a water source, because you will need to add and replace water constantly. Lastly, make sure you choose a location that you know will be able to withstand the weight of a fish farm.

    • 2

Decide how big you want the fish farm to be in terms of width, length and height. Once you've decided on the dimensions, start building a frame from plywood. Once you've built your frame, place it where you want your fish farm to be located.

    • 3

Cover the frame with the underlayment. Cover the underlayment with pond liner, making sure some pond liner is hanging off the sides because when the water will come in, it will pull the liner in tighter. You can cut the excess off once the water is in.

    • 4

Cover the sides of your frame with plywood. You can stain the plywood to get the desired color.

    • 5

Start filling your frame with water. Once filled with water, set up the UV filter, bio filter, pool filter, heater and lights. Add stones to the fish farm for decoration, as well as plants inside the fish farm or outside for decoration. Lastly, add your koi fish.
