Where will a kakapo live?

Kakapos are critically endangered, flightless parrots endemic to New Zealand. Once widespread throughout the country, kakapos were hunted to near extinction by humans and introduced mammalian predators. Today, the only remaining wild kakapo live on predator-free islands off the coast of New Zealand. These islands include Codfish Island, Little Barrier Island, Maud Island, and Hauturu (Little Barrier Island). Kakapos also live in captivity at several conservation centers in New Zealand.
