Here's why:
* Saltwater Source: Oceans are salty because rivers and streams carry dissolved minerals from the land into the ocean. These minerals build up over time, creating the saltiness we associate with oceans.
* Evaporation and Precipitation: While freshwater evaporates from the ocean surface, it leaves the salt behind. This evaporated water then forms clouds and eventually falls back as precipitation (rain, snow, etc.), which is freshwater. This process constantly replenishes freshwater on land, but it doesn't change the ocean's salinity.
There are, however, large bodies of freshwater, such as:
* Lakes: Some lakes are large and deep, but they're fed by rivers and streams and don't have the vast amount of dissolved minerals found in oceans.
* The Great Lakes: These are a series of large freshwater lakes in North America.
