Things You'll Need
- Aqua putty
- Super glue gel
- Sharp, sterile scissors
Instructions
Prepare a small amount of aqua putty and set the putty aside.
Remove a piece of live rock from the reef. Apply a small spot of super glue gel to the area where the mushroom will be attached.
Attach the piece of prepared aqua putty that was made in step one to the super glue gel. The putty will adhere instantly.
Carefully remove the toadstool's crown off the stalk. Remove the crown using sterile, sharp scissors. The crown is the mushroom's cap, do not cut the foot or stalk. Allow the crown to stay at the bottom of the reef in the substrate for a moment.
Finish preparing the rock fragment. Add another spot of super glue gel to the putty. The putty at this point should be securely attached to the live rock fragment.
Quickly attach the mushroom crown onto the fragment of rock. Make sure to do this step quickly, the super glue gel will harden within a moment of being placed in the water.
Place the crown on the piece of rock. Mushrooms require an alternating current between strong and medium. Toadstools also require a high light source to thrive. Leave the fragment on the bottom of the tank, if conditions are appropriate, if not, move the new fragment to an appropriate place in the reef.
Check the reef's water level for iodine and strontium. Add the appropriate dosage, according to the manufacture's suggestions, if the elements are low. Leather corals such as the toadstool mushroom, require trace elements for continued heath.
