How to Propagate Mushroom Corals

Coral reefs are disappearing at an alarming rate. Some of the disappearance of wild coral colonies is attributed to their harvesting. One way to lessen the impact of the aquarium trade is to grow aquacultured corals. Learn how to do so by reading this article.

      Cut one mushroom polyp from the substrate, to which it is attached at its base.

      Fill the bowl with water from the aquarium, and place the polyp in the bowl.

      Using the scissors or razor blade, divide the coral into equal sections directly down the middle as you would a pie.

      Return pieces to the bowl and then to the tank. where each section will mature into a separate polyp that can then be propagated itself.

      Wash your hands, because some polyps can be toxic.
