How to Adjust an Octopus LX2000

There was a time when many people were intimidated by merely the though of trying to set up and maintain saltwater aquariums for exotic fish, coral and anemone. However, advances in filtration technology have increased to the point where keeping a saltwater tank can be fun and enjoyable. One such saltwater system is the Super Reef Octopus LX-2000, which is a protein skimmer that maintains water quality and oxygen levels inside the saltwater tank. The Octopus LX-2000 emits tiny air bubbles into the tank which attract waste that contains harmful nitrates and phosphates. This waste is then sucked up through the skimmer tube and then stored in a collection cup. The Octopus LX- 2000 requires simple weekly adjustment and maintenance.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the back of the collection cup.

    • 2

Remove the collection cup, empty it out and clean it with an old toothbrush.

    • 3

Place the collection cup back in place and slide the collection cup either up or down on its adjustable track. The Octopus LX-2000 manual suggests the collection cup should be placed into the highest position possible during the skimmer's break-in period, which typically lasts two to three weeks. It can be lowered incrementally over time.

    • 4

Tighten the adjustment screws on the back of the collection cup once the desired position is reached.

    • 5

Remove the small blue sponge in the output section of the pump once weekly by hand and then clean it by rinsing and wringing it out with fresh water. Put it back after it is cleaned.
