What is mel0xicam?

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the oxicam class. It is used for pain relief, especially for conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Meloxicam can be taken orally or topically. It works by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is involved in the production of hormones that cause inflammation and pain. Meloxicam is considered a selective COX-2 inhibitor, indicating its preferential binding to the COX-2 enzyme compared to COX-1. However, it still retains some COX-1 inhibitory activity. By inhibiting the production of these hormones, meloxicam reduces inflammation and alleviates pain.
