How much water is in a desert?

There is very little water in a desert. Deserts are characterized by their extreme dryness, with very low levels of precipitation and humidity. Some deserts, such as the Atacama Desert in Chile, can go for years without receiving any rainfall. Even when it does rain in a desert, the water often evaporates quickly due to the high temperatures and low humidity. As a result, deserts are often characterized by their lack of vegetation and their dry, sandy or rocky terrain.
