How to Feed Red Tiger Oscars

Red tiger oscars are an exotic breed of tropical fish from the cichlid family. The fish, which originate in South America, take their name from the red marbled pattern that mottles their dark skin, making their flesh look somewhat like a tiger's skin. You can feed red tiger oscars, an aggressive fish, with worms or smaller fish. However, to care for the distinctive skin patterns that give the fish their name, it's best to feed them pellet food specially formulated to bring out their coloring.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed young red tiger oscars twice daily with a small pinch of tropical floating flakes. Sprinkle the flakes over the water's surface to ensure an even meal for all fish.

    • 2

Watch the fish as they devour the food. If they quickly eat the first pinch you've served them, provide another pinch.

    • 3

Continue feeding the fish twice daily with as many flakes as they will eat quickly.

    • 4

Start feeding your red tiger oscars with cichlid-formulated pellets once they grow larger than 3 inches. Again, feed the fish twice daily, and only provide small amounts of pellets for as long as they are quickly eating what you give them.

Use a net to fish out uneaten pellets from your oscars' tank to reduce pollution in the water and keep your fish healthy.
