How to Buy Angelfish

Freshwater angelfish are beautiful, fun to watch and relatively easy to take care of since they aren't as susceptible to disease as most other tropical fish. There are several varieties of these fish including the Silver Angel Fish, Zebra, Black, Half Black, Black Lace, Golden, Marble, Blushing and Pearl Scale. Select the ones you like and buy your angelfish.

Instructions

    • 1

Get your tank ready for your angelfish. You'll need at least a 10-gallon tank, gravel, a tank light, filtration system, heater, thermometer, plants and other things for fish to hide in and explore.

    • 2

Let the water in your tank sit with the filtration system running for a couple of days before purchasing your new fish. Make sure the water temperature is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3

Decide what variety of angelfish you want. Do a search online and visit your local pet store to look at the different kinds they have available.

    • 4

Observe the fish at the pet store and look for ones that seem healthy and active. Bigger is not better. Choose fish with straight top and bottom fins and without bows or bends in their feelers.

    • 5

Get fish food for your new angelfish. A regular flake fish food is fine and the fish should be fed once or twice daily. Feed them only as much as they can eat in a minute or two.

    • 6

Wait a few days before adding other fish in the tank with your angel fish, allowing them to become accustomed to their new home. Ask the pet store employees about which fish are compatible to angel fish. You want fish that will not nip, ones that aren't so small that they could be eaten and fish that require the same water temperature as angelfish.
